The East-West GmbH of the Chamber of Crafts of Coblenz has been active since April 1997. An avowed goal of this organisation is the promotion of small and middle scale enterprises, not least also traditional arts and crafts.
After the successful completion of the reconnaissance project, which began in April 1998 the 3-year full project. The Cambodian project partner: Cambodian Craft Cooperation (CCC) was established in August 1997. The Cambodian Craft Cooperation is a non-governmental association of craftsmen from different crafts areas. The number of members of the CCC in the year 2000 was about 105 members with approx. 350 employees. Most members come from the area "ceramics". The Project coordinator of the Chamber of Crafts of Coblenz is Mr. Frank Ludwig. The representative of the Cambodian project partner and director of the Cambodian Craft Cooperation is Mr. Seung Kimyonn.
The centre for the partnership project is the Design Centre Phnom Penh. This elaborate and tasteful restored old building was opened after completion in January 1999.
The design centre is situated in central Phnom Penh, directly opposite to Phnom Pagoda. This is where the administration offices, the seminar room, a sales area and the ceramics and silver workshops are located.
